Because it's a royal year. We celebrate 10 years of Kingship. We experienced the historic coronation of King Charles III. We said goodbye to the Queen Mother but also to Tina Turner, the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll. But above all, because monarchies and dynasties have inspired us for centuries. The Kings and Queens, the Princes and Princesses. Picture the mysterious Egyptian Pharaohs, the wealthy Ming dynasty or the glamorous principality of Monaco. Or the mighty fashion dynasties!
Through EXPO NO.3 – THE ONE FOR THE ROYALS, which takes place from 1st of October to 31st of December, we salute our own creative 'court' and their art and design objects to royal heritage.
From 4 – 8 October 2023, The Fashion Week takes place in The Hague. For five days you can experience and see fashion in the most beautiful places in the city.
Island Gallery, now known as the art & design hotspot of The Hague, is participating in this edition - alongside Juwelier Steltman, De Bijenkorf, Hotel Des Indes and Theater Amare - through the so-called 'window display route' and thus provides a special platform to designer Jose Marie Sta Iglesia.
Jose Marie, born in the Philippines, completed his studies at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, or the Royal Academy of Art. His collection is about Imelda Maros, a controversial Filipina, who allegedly stole diamonds and hid them in curtains. She loved the beauty of beautiful objects, which she equated with innocence.
Island Gallery embraces every art discipline. During EXPO NO.2 we launched an NFT collection and now we present AI art. Controversial, yes! What we would like to show our visitors and art lovers in general is that art evolves. That has always been the case. Art is the conscious creation of something beautiful or meaningful using skill and imagination. That's what it is and what we stand for.
This Expo’s affiche was made by Daniëlle van Yperen, using Artificial Intelligence software in combination with photo editing software, and is called ‘The Girl with the Delft Blue dress on her throne’.
Just as in our previous Expo's, Island Gallery organizes several events during EXPO NO.3 for its engaged visitors and for art & design lovers in general, such as Art- and Design Talks. Next to that, in collaboration with fashion designer Monique Collignon, Island Gallery opens a special Solo Exposition in November. So stay tuned!
