LOUEN BUURMAN

Louen portret

Louen comes from a family where art was an important part of her upbringing. This laid the foundation for, among other things, The Thinker, an exclusive piece of furniture that Louen designed and made from solid wood and veneer, standing on a fine industrial black steel base.
The front is remarkable but also unique. Here, using American walnut slats, the contours of 'The Thinker', a famous bronze sculpture from 1881 by the French sculptor Auguste Rodin, emerge as an optical illusion.
With this piece of furniture, Louen aims to merge the combination of modern and older art.

As a masterpiece, The Thinker was taken along with Louen - who at that time just graduated from the Dutch HMC - to the leading furniture fair Salone Del Mobile in Milan. Now it is part of the Island Collection as a design piece, available in various, customized versions.
