KAREL VAN WOLFEREN

Karel van Wolferen portret

Karel van Wolferen (1941) began photography when he was 11 years old, with self-built darkroom experience from the age of 14. He left The Netherlands when he was 19, and spent half his life in East Asia as a reporter and author. With Tokyo as his base he specialized in working with large-format negatives especially 8 x 10 inch. With the arrival of digital techniques he began what he calls ‘8x10 by other means’ aiming at total all-over sharpness and very large prints. One category within this effort consists of photo-stacked macro photography of flower compositions. Another category large-format landscapes. But street photography is what he enjoys doing most of all.
