In 2013, photography artist Gert Kist made a name for himself with his male images printed on weathered wooden surfaces.
As a photography artist, Kist gone through a period of development and transition. His subject-matter shifted and his photographs became more layered, both in a figurative and literal sense.
In the curated Island-Collection we present a number of his new series of portraits, by which the focus not solely goes to the male torso, but also on female faces that seem to want to either express something or in fact conceal. Dashing women wearing extravagant costumes, jewellery, hair-dresses and masks. Something is happening inside these female portraits. The beholder can only guess, yet is intrigued and invited to engage.
